Mobile Studios

Concept and Realisation: Public Art Lab

Mobile Studios is an interdisciplinary project of Public Art Lab, Berlin. From April until the end of May 2006, the Mobile Studios travel as a nomadic multimedia platform from Bratislava, Budapest and Belgrade to Sofia, and will temporarily possess the urban spaces in these cities. The Mobile Studios are an internationally networked pilot project of a mobile, autonomous production laboratory for young artists, musicians, performers and cultural programmers. In a subsequent program, artists and cultural producers will be invited to recreate the studio as directors. Mobile Studios are consisting of three corresponding units: the Editorial-, the Talk- and the Live Studio.

The installations and urban interventions that take place in the Live Studio, as well as the conversations and discussions of the Talk Studios, will be transformed and broadcast in the Editorial Studio in various formats. The production and broadcast processes will be made visible at the same time.

Mobile Studios travel like a nomadic community through different landscapes. Economic, political, cultural, social and digital layers are experienced by the currency, frontier, goods and habits and the welcome message on the cell phone. Once they arrive in the city their mobile structure provides the possibility to be installed in different urban settings.

±359 TOPOLOGY invites you to examine it as a collection of collections. Each element of the installation is in itself a collection of memories, facts and desires. They all connect to the other elements without exhibiting this connection, but rather by inviting you to be active. To construct the relation, to draw the connecting lines. And when you come back the collection will have changed by the traces of all the active passengers. The performance of the installation creates the installation. And what emerges is not pre-fixed. ±359 TOPOLOGY is a room of EMERGENCY.

The idea for the show “Mirror – image phase” is provoked by the pictures of the artist Egon Shile, his self – portrait, as well as his pictures of naked female bodies. Methodological searching, based on a multitude physical actions, by means of the interaction of the spasmodic bodies from the Shile’s drawings emitting enjoyment and discomfort, often expressed in a grotesque plan and their transformation in a live body.

“Funktionen” goes beyond a dual reciprocity, by virtue of a rotating devision of functions.

The abstract functions Material, Observation, Interpretation, Mediation and Manipulation become content-related through their encounter with ideas and intentions of the dancers, which work within these functions.

Migratory Restlessness

Migratory Restlessness is a performance representing migration, survival strategies and travel periods. Not only animals but people also hit the road when the situation in their homeland no longer corresponds to their perceptions. Unlike migratory birds that are everywhere at home, immigrants often feel alien, rootless and unwanted.

During the interaction with four performers and an installation with 100 flying objects, will be described and studied the migratory behavior of humans and birds in the ” biotope Earth” inhabited by them.

A Piece for You

Worldwide Choreographic Project

The participants in Sofia decided to make the presents during a party at home.

In this project Lehmen will make a series of short dance pieces as gifts for people he will meet in Europe and Asia.

The project stations in 2013 are Oberhausen, Tallinn, Warsaw, Bologna, Gießen, Sofia, Chennai, Dhaka and many other places on route in between. The continuation of the project is planned in other continents from 2014 onwards.

One of the distinct characteristics of the project is that each of the short pieces will be developed in direct collaboration with the people because a high level of reciprocity (the understanding of oneself in and through the other and vice versa) is needed to make each one unique. Therefore Lehmen will spend time with the presentees to include them dialogically in the dramaturgy. Themes and contexts and not least issues of individual importance to these people provide the base for each single piece. The resulting form of each performance is similarly influenced by the encounter.

The project’s target presentees, who Lehmen meets in both planned and unprompted encounters, will include the broadest range of people possible. No exclusions will be made on thematic, social or political grounds.

In the final performances the presentees are always present. The performances take place in their immediate surroundings, living rooms, gardens, public places, and only in special cases in theatres.

The overall project concept also includes workshops and projects with other artists, lectures and a short introduction piece that can be performed anywhere. There will also be an accompanying internet presence providing films of the pieces and written contributions.
